Luminaria – An Exhibition at the Attleboro Arts Museum (Feb 15th - 21st)

In 2020 the Attleboro Arts Museum is partnering with organizers of Relay for Life of Greater Attleboro – a local Relay that includes several hundred individuals with 65+ teams.  Greater Attleboro’s Relay brings in participants from Attleboro, North Attleboro, Norton, Plainville and Rehoboth, among other towns and cities.  2020 will commemorate Relay for Life of Greater Attleboro’s 22nd year.   The event will be held on June 12th -13th, 2020 at Norton High School, in Norton, MA.

To help spread the word about this important cause and Relay, the Attleboro Arts Museum will exhibit original, “artful” luminaria, created by artists in their own style and chosen medium. The exhibition, entitled Luminaria, will shine a light on the mission of the American Cancer Society, the strength of community collaboration, and the remarkable power of artistic expression.

Participating Artists: Eman Abdalla; Kareem Abdalla; Barbara J. Adams; Bill Clark; Susan G. Daum; Mim Brooks Fawcett; Margo Lemieux; Amelia Lydon; Gwyn Marathas; Sheila Oliveira; Susan Potter; Nora Rabins; Betsy Ritz; Abby Rovaldi; Sarah Samways; Michelle Scotti; Kerry St.Pierre; Carolann Tebbetts and Steven Wiseman.

A beacon of hope… though my luminaria represents three of my dear family members who each lost their battles with cancer, this sculpture serves as a bright reminder that they are with me and greatly missed.  Each portrait stares out – warmly illuminated – and I’m reminded of their vivacious, fun-loving, and inspirational personalities even in the darkest of moments.  The portraits were drawn from a photo reference, that was carefully chosen, and depicts each luminary in their most healthy and beautiful stage of life – the way I will always remember them.

The Three Luminaries  is dedicated in loving memory to:

Eugene “Gene” Dunton (1940 – 2017) Leukemia

Theodora Bourikas Nelson (1953 – 2009) Pancreatic cancer

Jan Alita Nelson Haddix (1951 – 1990) Breast cancer

See below for detail images of all sides of my Luminaria as well as its placement in the exhibition at the AAM.  My piece will be traveling to the  Bronson Building in downtown Attleboro, MA for additional exposure.
